B720 Arquitectos, led by Fermín Vázquez, came up with the design of Spain’s pavilion for Milan Expo 2015, which is made up of a wooden structure with plenty of open spaces both inside and out. The 2,104-square metre space has a clear sense of geometry and includes a patio of orange trees, the symbol of Iberian identity, as well as a beach bar and auditorium, succeeding in representing both tradition and innovation. Inside, the theme is “the language of flavour”, and visitors are guided through three zones, learning about land, produce, and food through different experiences, many of which are digital. There are even cooking areas and a teaching garden to further encourage education, and of course, a tapas bar and restaurant serving fantastic Spanish cuisine. The design is inspired by transience and impermanence, and of course the entire structure will be taken apart at the end of the event.
