Using steel, paint and book pages, US-based artist Andrew Hayes creates these wonderful sculptures. The artist is drawn to books for their smell, texture, and also as they are able to be transformed into art – another great way to tell stories. Hayes has an industrial background which gave him an interest in working with metal and contrasting the rigidity of this material with the delicate nature of books. His Altered Books series transforms the pages of old books into modern sculptures which still manage to retain the delicate quality of the pages used to make them.
