Milano Design Week 2018: Exhibitions and Installations You Cannot Miss

From April 17th to 22th, 2018, Milan will step onto the international stage for the Milan Design Week, known as the “Fuorisalone”.

During the event, former industrial spaces, historic buildings usually closed to the public, hidden courtyards, artisan workshops and fashion showrooms go beyond the concept of background and interact with their contents, becoming an installation within an installation.

With hundreds of happenings, here’s some tips and must-see exhibitions and installations at Milano Design Week 2018.

Potocco: combines warmth and comfort with a fresh and light touch

Potocco, the excellence of Made in Italy, will be present at the 57th International Furniture Exhibition with a collective story that takes on multiple forms through projects interpreting the company’s style. Five designers will pay tribute to Potocco’s tradition adding a new and modern approach. So welcome to Oscar and Gabriele Buratti, Chiara Andreatti, Antonio Sciortino and Maurizio Zucchi, Terri Pecora and Serena Confalonieri. Once again confirmed Mario Ferrarini, David Lopez Quincoces and Bernhardt & Vella.

A preview of the exhibition is the LOOM sofa by David Lopez Quincoces. This year is present in the new modular version: one can choose between central, corner and terminal elements to create the desired solution. Minimal and stylish.

Norwegian design and craft objects

Norwegian Presence will present a range of new products, sculptural craftwork and iconic designs.

In a rough factory space in Ventura Lambrate the visitors experienced a great diversity of design approaches, innovation, skills, and material knowledge that exists within the Norwegian design and crafts field. Norwegian Presence is a collaboration between Klubben, Norwegian Icons, Norwegian Crafts and Jotun Decorative Paints.

The focus of the exhibition is the Norwegian concept of fellesskap, in oder words the importance of collaboration.

Gufram and discotheque-inspired collection

It’s called Disco Gufram and it’s the new collection features pieces by Italian studio Atelier Biagetti, Dutch designers Rotganzen, and Paris-based studio GGSV.

At Fuorisalonet he italian furniture brand pays homage to its extravagant past with disco gufram, a space that combines past and present through a collection of disco-inspired furniture. “Each piece is conceived as a person with a precise attitude, a sense of humor, a beauty, also some vices and dreams that get wild during the night, says the Atelier Biagetti.

Vegan Design or the Art of Reduction

Sustainable design is protagonist at the 57th International Furniture Exhibition. Is it possible to design without using any material from animals? Vegan designer Nevi Pana incorporates his spirituality into his practice; he is currently researching the topic of vegan design as a doctoral candidate at the University of Art and Design in Linz, Austria.

Dimore Studio and 3 separate events

Progetto Non Finito – Library

Founded in 2003 by Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran, Dimore Studio will be present with three separate events for Milan design week. The first – Dimore Studio Gallery – is an installation of iconic 20th-century design at a location on Via Solferino 11. Moreover here, the studio will showcase its latest pieces from the collections Progetto Non Finito and Oggetti collections. Lastly, an installation named Limited Edition will see six shop front windows filled with items from the late 1800s and early 1900s that have been deconstructed and updated with modern lacquers and materials.

The events of COS at Fuorisalone have lately been among the most awaited of Milan Design Week.
The installation will be open to the public from 17th to 22nd April 2018 at Palazzo Isimbardi.
