Wooden Christmas Tree in Budapest | Hello Wood

In the centre of Budapest, architects at Hello Wood have created an 11 metre tall Christmas tree made from 15,000 kilos of logs, some of which are painted white to look like baubles. The structure, which took five 24-hour working days to complete and is named the Charity Tree, will remain in the square until Twelfth Night, when the firewood will be given to families who need it, making it not only a Christmas decoration but a social project. The designers noted, “the installation represents the importance of the community and social awareness: not only because people traditionally gather around Christmas trees to celebrate together, but also because at Christmas, it is particularly important to think of the thousands of Hungarian families who have daily problems with heating during wintertime,”. There is a seating area inside the tree, where members of the public can go to relax, and the whole structure is lit up at night with coloured lights. You can watch the video showing its creation below.
